EXPLORATIONS' Environmental Concerns Club (EECC) was established at the beginning of the 2008/2009 school year, attracting eight students and two staff members in its first year! EECC's undertakings have included setting up paper recycling bins in each room, can and bottle recycling barrels, and containers for tin lunch containers, nutrition bar wrappers, and yogurt tops. The club further expanded the campus recycling initiative by posting signs and reminding other students to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Club members weeded and tended the flower gardens around the school grounds, and ran the school store, for a portion of the year, selling juice and primarily healthy snacks to raise funds for its favorite causes. EEOC donated its profits to Flamig Farm in Simsbury, and to Tyler Lake Land Trust in Goshen. Flamig Farm is an environmentally friendly establishment run by Farmer Nevin. Nevin has almost $100,000 in solar panels, makes and uses bio-diesel fuel for all his farming vehicles, and has a petting zoo open to the public. Tyler Lake Land Trust preserves land around its lake as a refuge for wildlife.
